The Story

It’s the 10th Annual National Feed a Rescue Pet Week

One of the biggest expenses for shelters and rescue groups is feeding animals in their care. Of the 5.8 million animals who entered shelters last year, 1.6 million remained there, hungry and waiting for adoption. With more and more bellies to fill and the costs of food and other basic pet supplies rising, many rescues are left with little to nothing in their budgets for medical treatment, vaccines, or adoption programs.

Meet Mathilda and Eleanor

Mathilda and Eleanor were discovered in a ditch after a passerby spotted a garbage bag moving, and two small heads poking out of it. Both dogs were severely emaciated, though Mathilda was notably in worse condition. She couldn't even sit comfortably on the ground. Carefully managed feeding, made possible by generous donations to our food distribution program, helped these two pups flourish


Meet Moss

Moss was safe in her rescue when a fall broke her jaw, requiring emergency surgery to repair it with a wire, then a second surgery weeks later to remove it. Recovering from jaw surgery meant Moss needed specialized, easy-to-eat food — and Greater Good Charities' food distribution program made sure she had exactly what she needed to heal, without straining her rescue's budget.
